Met Eireann has warned that heavy rainfall this evening could cause flooding and dangerous conditions on the roads.

In an update to a status yellow weather warning issued earlier today Met Eireann said “Heavy thundery downpours this afternoon and evening will lead to flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions”.

The yellow weather warning was issued for Galway and the rest of Connacht today, along with Donegal, Clare Kerry, and Limerick.

It was originally scheduled to last from 4pm until 9pm, but that has now been extended until 10pm tonight.

Intense rainfall of 20mm to 30mm is expected to fall during this period.

This is a strong signal of the end of a sunny spell which has lasted through race week, as the weather is forecast to stay wet and windy throughout the week.
