A status yellow weather warning issued earlier has been extended to Galway, as heavy rain in places may lead to rainfall accumulations of 25-40mm tonight.

The warning was issued by Met Éireann this afternoon and is in force from now until tomorrow morning – Saturday 28 July – at 6am.

The weather warning for rain was extended to most of the country earlier.

The AA are warning motorists of the possible dangers, saying wet roads can be especially slippery straight after a significant dry spell.

Spot flooding has been reported in areas around Galway today.
