A Donegal woman pleaded guilty to theft last week at Galway District Court after stealing a laptop while drunk.

Valerie McDonagh of Convoy, Donegal took a Dell Inspiron laptop worth €1,019 from Curry’s PC World on the Headford Road on January 5.

The 32-year-old then returned to the same store the next day – where the staff immediately recognised her and contacted the guards.

She had been at a friend’s barbecue and had some drink taken before the incident.

The court heard that McDonagh came back to the store because she did not remember stealing the laptop and wanted to purchase something.

The mother of four fully co-operated with gardaí following her arrest.

She told them where to find the laptop, which was recovered.

McDonagh also pleaded guilty to stealing €56.72 of petrol from Monaghans Garage on the Tuam Road on Valentine’s day.

Compensation was paid in court for the second incident.

She has five previous convictions – all for theft.

After separating from her husband McDonagh is living with a sister in Galway at Cluain Riocaird off the Headford road.

The court is awaiting a community service assessment and probation services report before sentencing.
