Enjoy an evening of music, film, and storytelling this Culture Night at the first in a series of Open House events being held by Galway 2020.
From their base at Merchant’s Road, Galway 2020 have invited some of the best artists and musicians in the community to share their talents with anyone who wants to hear them.
‘Melting Pot Luck’ will open at 6pm as they perform African music, dance, and stories to bring the audience on a journey through the cultures that have brought their art to our communities.
This community group, made of members of our community and residents of direct provision centres aims to promote the integration of all the tribes of Galway with cultural events and pot luck dinners.
Switching over to the realm of technology, ‘Digital Space’ gives you the chance to experience the Virtual and Augmented Reality that’s becoming one of the next big things in arts and entertainment.
See some of the works of Cruinniú na nÓg, including their ‘Virtually Here’ project made for Galway 2020 from 7 – 9:30pm.
The Little Cinema will be screening 10 of their top short films from the Galway City of Film 48 Hour Challenge and this year’s Little Cinema Galway for anyone who couldn’t catch them this summer.
They’ll be set up in a little room from 7 – 9:30pm.

Galway 2020’s Open House is one of many Culture Night events on around Galway City and County this Friday, September 21.
As well as great entertainment, Galway 2020 will be telling people about the events that will be on during the European Capital of Culture year.
Three projects from Small Towns Big Ideas will be talking about getting the community involved in their projects and their hopes for the future.
Galway Autism Partnership will be there to discuss raising awareness and supporting families with their Hear Our Voice project.
ARD Family Resource Centre in Doughiska is holding a series of Cultural Café evenings, and Frank and Sola from the centre will be talking about diversity in our communities and what being European means to them.
But bringing our communities together can mean looking back as well.
Paul and Monica, who took part in the Furnace Festival in Slieve Aughty, will talk about the value of traditional skills as a way of celebrating this place.
Of course it’s not possible to talk about community in Galway without mentioning Irish.
Loretta Ní Ghabháin will host an informal session on the Irish Language and communicating through it.
After all that Culture Night will finish up with more music with Tommy and Pádraic Keane demonstrating the Uilleann pipes and playing a trad session.
