A probation report was ordered by Galway District Court for a young man who pleaded guilty to selling MDMA at Carbon nightclub.
Chris Casserly (26), with an address at 2 Cobble Drive, Gort was detained by security guards at Carbon nightclub on Eglinton St. in the city on June 23, 2016 because they suspected he was selling drugs inside the club.
Gardaí were called to the scene, and when they searched Casserly they found 19 MDMA pills on him with a street value of €1330.
Solicitor for the accused Brian Gilmartin said that Casserly drifted into drugs after a serious assault that had a long term impact on him, and stopped him from going to university as he’d planned.
Mr. Gilmartin said that since his arrest Casserly has found full time employment, and presented the court with a GP’s letter showing that he’s been completely clean since then as well.
Casserly was in court with his mother that they, and while she did not give evidence in person Mr. Gilmartin said that she told him Casserly spends his time at home helping out with his three step-sisters.
Casserly has three previous conviction from the same period in 2016, one for selling drugs and two for possession of knives.
He received 12 months probation for those offences, which Gardaí said he was fully compliant with.
The judge adjourned the case until September 28 for a full probation report and an up to date GP’s letter on his compliance with staying clean.
