Almost €150,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 29 community organisations in Galway city to help improve the facilities available in disadvantaged areas.
The Galway City Local Community Development Committee approved grants totalling €132,455 to a wide range of local groups and organisations at their recent meeting on July 10.
Funding for 29 large and small capital projects offering a wide range of services and support in the local community was approved under the Community Enhancement Programme for 2019.
All of the projects receiving funding relate to one or more of the key priority areas as identified in the Galway City Local Economic & Community Plan 2015 – 2021 and the delivery of these projects in 2019 will support the delivery of many of the collaborative actions which will be of great benefit to local communities in Galway City.
The individual awards handed out in this round of the Community Enhancement Programme ranged from €23,516 for the Galway Contact, Organisation for Older People to purchase a specialised bus to transport elderly people, down to €550 to buy a new PA system for Westside Arts Festival.
Galway City LCDC said that it expects the projects approved in June to be successfully delivered within 2019.
