The brighter spring weather of will be short-lived as it makes way for rain throughout this week.

Met Éireann said that temperatures will also return to average this week, and some thundery downpours are expected.

Tomorrow, Monday will start wet, but the rain will clear northwards through the morning.

Some sunny spells will follow as well as scattered showers with the potential for thundery downpours.

However, it will become generally dry by evening and the highest temperatures will be 18 to 20 degrees in moderate southerly winds.

Tuesday will see constant outbreaks of rain across the West, with the rain becoming widespread and heavy through the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees are forecast in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Wednesday could start bright with just some showers, but rain will once again take over as the day goes on, and some heavy downpours are possible.

Showers are also forecast for the rest of the week and into the weekend, as high temperatures fall to around 14 or 15 degrees.
