Met Éireann’s status yellow weather warning for rain is now in place in Galway and six other counties in the west and south of the country.
The warning, which came into force last night, is for prolonged rain with heavier bursts at times – with the heaviest and most persistent rain forecast for later tomorrow, Friday.
Met Éireann says that significant accumulations are possible in upland areas and there is a risk of localised flooding.
Galway City Council has reminded motorists to beware of spot flooding and to watch out for walkers and cyclists as they move about.
The status yellow warning is set to remain in place until 3am on Saturday morning.
