Storm Barra: Status Orange marine warning for the west coast

A Status Orange Storm Warning has been issued for waters on the west coast of Ireland for the arrival of Storm Barra next week.

Met Eireann warns that southerly winds veering westerly will reach gale force 8 to storm force 10 on Atlantic coastal waters Tuesday.

This warning is for the Atlantic Coast from Mizen Head to Erris Head to Fair Head, and will be in effect for all of Tuesday.

The remainder of Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea are under a status yellow gale warning for Tuesday as well.

A weather warning for heavy winds across all of Ireland during Storm Barra has also been issued from 6am Tuesday until the same time Wednesday morning.

The worst of the winds are expected in western coastal counties, with “severe and damaging gusts” possible according to Met Eireann.

There will high waves at sea and a significant possibility of coastal flooding on south and west coasts.
