The weather warning for Storm Barra in Galway has been upgraded to status orange, as 130km/hr gusts are expected on Tuesday.
The Status Orange wind warning has been issued for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, and Galway, while the rest of the country remains under a yellow alert.
“On Tuesday and Tuesday night, due to Storm Barra, southerly winds, later becoming to northwesterly, will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/hr with severe or damaging gusts of up to 130 Km/ hr, possibly higher in coastal areas.”
Met Eireann has warned that power outages and disruption due to fallen trees is likely, as is coastal flooding.
“High waves, high tides, heavy rain and storm surge will lead to wave overtopping and a significant possibility of coastal flooding.”
The Status Orange weather warning will be in place from 6am Tuesday until 6am Wednesday.
An orange marine warning for storm force winds has also been issued for the west coast of Ireland on Tuesday.
