A status yellow weather warning for heavy winds has been issued for Galway and the northwest of Ireland today by Met Eireann.
The weather warning states that southwest winds, veering westerly will reach mean speeds of 50-65km/h, with gusts up to 100km/h on Friday evening, Friday night and for a time on Saturday.
The alert will come into effect at 5pm this evening, and remain in place until midday on Saturday.
Aside from Galway it also covers Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, and Clare.
Two marine alerts have also been issued by Met Eireann today, including an overnight gale warning for all coastal waters.
Southwest winds will reach gale force today and tonight on Irish coastal waters from Roche’s Point to Slyne Head to Malin Head, veering westerly during Saturday with gales extending to all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea.
A small craft warning has also been issued for waters on the east coast.
