A Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for Galway and three other counties in the west and southwest.

“Spells of heavy rain will lead to accumulations of 30 to 40mm during the period, with higher totals possible in upland areas,” the weather warning from Met Eireann said.

The warning will come into effect at 2pm on Friday and remain in place for the next 24 hours until 2pm on Saturday.

Along with Galway the warning also covers counties Clare, Limerick, and Kerry.

A small craft warning is also in effect for boats on the water off the southwest and west tonight.

“Southwesterly winds will occasionally reach force 6 tonight and overnight on Irish Coasts from Hook Head to Mizen Head to Slyne Head”.

The weather forecast for the weekend says to expect conditions to remain unsettled, with more rain forecast even after the weather warning expires on Saturday.
