A Status Red marine warning for extremely stormy seas off the west coast of Ireland today has been issued by Met Eireann.
West to southwest winds will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 today on Irish coastal waters from Loop Head to Malin Head to Carlingford Lough and the north Irish Sea according to Met Eireann.
But even worse conditions are expected along the west coast, with Storm force 10 winds occurring on the seas from Slyne Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head.
The waters between Erris Head in Mayo and Bloody Foreland could see winds reaching violent storm force 11 today as well.
Headed into Saturday night southerly winds veering westerly will reach gale force 8 or higher on all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea.
Galway is currently under a Status Orange weather warning for heavy winds today as Storm Aiden is affecting the west coast.
