Met Eireann has issued a Snow & Ice warning for Galway and the rest of Ireland this weekend as freezing conditions are forecast.

The cold snap is expected to continue over the weekend and into next week, with Met Eireann predicting falls of sleet and snow over the weekend, particularly in the Midlands.

The status yellow warning for Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, and Connacht will be in effect from 5pm Saturday until 5pm Sunday.

Falls of sleet and snow are forecast for that time with snowfall accumulations expected.

This may cause hazardous travelling conditions with poor visibility, and possible disruptions of public transport.

Temperatures in Galway are expected to hit lows of -1 degrees this weekend, before getting significantly colder next week.

A Status Orange warning has been issued for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick, and Tipperary where significant accumulations of snow are expected.
