Some scattered snow and sleet showers are expected in Galway overnight, as Met Eireann has issued a weather weather for this evening.
The status yellow Snow and Ice warning is in effect this evening, and will remain in place until 9am on Wednesday morning.
“Scattered sleet and snow showers with some accumulations possible. Icy stretches likely,” Met Eireann has said.
This weather warning has been issued for Galway Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, and Westmeath.
A separate alert is in place for Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo this evening.
Further alerts for the cold snap are likely this week, with a weather advisory in place until Friday due to the arctic airflow in place over the country.
Inland Galway saw temperatures drop as low as -6 degrees on Tuesday morning, among the lowest in the country.
