Met Éireann has issued orange and yellow warnings for freezing fog in Galway as the forecasters warned of “very hazardous” driving conditions today and tonight.
A status orange warning will come into effect at noon today and will remain in place until midnight across much of the country.
Then a status yellow warning will then be in place in Galway and 12 other counties as the freezing fog persists overnight.
This warning is expected to be lifted on Tuesday morning at 10am.
Met Éireann says freezing fog, dense in places, will persist through the afternoon and into tonight, leading to dangerous conditions on the roads.
A separate orange warning for all counties in the Republic is in place until midday today.
Motorists are being urged to slow down and be aware of other road users, allow extra time for stopping, and to drive with caution.
People are also advised to take extra care while walking as footpaths can be extremely slippery due to ice.
