NUI Galway graduate doctor receives highest grade in 4 subjects

NUI Galway graduate Dr Emma Callaghan from Castlerea in Roscommon has qualified as a doctor having secured four Gold Medals after getting the highest grade in four subjects.

On Tuesday, Dr Callaghan was conferred with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Obstetrics from NUI Galway at a virtual conferring ceremony.

Dr Callaghan received the highest grade in Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Medicine, and received four Gold Medals at the ceremony yesterday which is 104 years old.

Professor Carmel Malone, Head of the School of Medicine at NUI Galway, said: “I extend my congratulations to Emma, to all the gold medal recipients and to this year’s Medicine class for their resilience and dedication in what was an extremely difficult end to their degree.

“I have no doubt that they will make excellent interns and wish them well in their future careers.”

Dr Callaghan will be starting her internship at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin in July.
