Dominick Street Upper will become the latest street in Galway City to be closed every evening to allow for outdoor dining.

The street in the West End will be closed to traffic from 6pm to 11pm every day, from Friday 18 June until Thursday 30 September.

Dominick Street Upper, which has a number of well-known pubs and restaurants, is joining other streets in the city where trial measures began last week.

The measures have allowed for locals and visitors to safely and comfortably dine outdoors.

Galway City Council says that a number of safety tests by emergency services were carried out to ensure that access remains available to emergency vehicles at all times.

The evening pedestrianisation of the street will be assessed throughout the summer and adjustments could be made, the council says.
