It was a busy week of athletics with members taking part in both the Allianz Cumann na Bunscol XC Championships in Renmore on Friday and in the County XC Finals in Bushfield, Loughrea on Sunday.

Congratulations to Danielle Moynihan (representing Ballinderry NS) who won the Cumann na mBunscol 800m Junior Girls event. Danielle was joined by team members Grace McGrath who finished in 3rd position, Abbi McGrath in 5th and Grace Riordan in 13th.

The girls won the team gold for Ballinderry N.S.

Our athletes had further success in the Senior Girls and Boys 1000m race with Aoife Hession (Ballinderry N.S) and Oisin Phelan (Brierfield NS) both finishing in 2nd position in their respective races. Congrats also to Eva Burke (Belmont NS) who finished in 3rd position in the Senior Girls race.

Other club members who took part included: Sean Breslin, Isaac Costello, Matthew Hession, Gemma Casserly, Ciarán O’ Donnell, Cillian Comer, Sarah Murphy and Michelle Hession.

The County XC Finals (uneven ages) took place in Bushfield, Loughrea on Sunday with forty-three athletes from the club participating in U9-U17 events.

Tuam AC members performed exceptionally well in all races with many athletes securing both medals and qualification for the Connacht finals next month. One of the main highlights of the day was in the U9 Girls race where Eimear Fallon led for much of the race and stormed home to take the gold medal.

Eimear was joined by team mates Chloe Mannion, Aisling Hession, Saoirse Maguire and Evie Gallagher. The girls won the team bronze based on their combined finishing positions.

Two teams from the club took part in the Boys U9s race. The boys did not disappoint with four athletes from the club finishing in the top 7 in what was a thrilling race.

Cian McGinn, Eanna McGrath, Odhran Kelly and Thomas Riordan all ran exceptionally well with Cian just edged out of first position by Alan Hallinan from Craughwell AC.

Well done to Cian McGinn (2nd), Eanna McGrath (3rd), Odhran Kelly (4th), Thomas Riordan (7th), Oisin Munnelly (13th) and Ben Hynes (17th) who claimed the gold medal in the team event.

Congrats to Alfie, Dowling, Ruairi Costello, Daragh Brady and Fionn Mitchell who all ran very well with their team finishing in 8th position overall.

Further success followed in the U11 Girls race when Clodagh Fallon ran superbly to finish in 2nd position. Also running very well were Sarah Hartnett (7th), Grace Riordan (13th), Savanagh O’ Callaghan (15th), Caoimhe Phelan and Ciara Mooney.

The girls won the gold medal in the team event. Caoilagh Kelly, India Cunniffe, Ella Costello and Leah Delaney made up the second team from Tuam AC in this race and their team finished in 7th position.

Tuam AC fielded two teams in the Boys U11 race. Ciaran O’ Donnell led home the Tuam boys running a strong race to finish in 4th position. Ciaran was followed closely by Isaac Costello (10th), Ryan Hession (19th), Matthew Mannion (21st), Rian Burke and Matthew Hession.

The boys won the bronze medal in the team event. Well done to Conor Haverty, Conor Mongey and Frankie Dowling who all ran very well but just finished outside the medals in the team rankings.

Two girls took part in the U13 race. Well done to Aoife Hession and Sarah Mongey who both represented the club over the 2.5km distance. Congrats to Aoife who finished in 5th position.

The boys U13 team won the silver medal in the team event with Oisin Phelan running an outstanding race to finish in second position. Oisin was joined by team members Cian Halligan (9th), Sean Rhattigan (10th), Ross Mitchell (12th), Ryan O’ Donnell (15th) and Kevin Munnelly (16th).

Finally, well done to Ciara Maguire who finished in 7th position in the Girls U17 4k race and who has qualified for the Connacht XC Championships next month.

Well done to everyone who took part in Renmore and Loughrea over the past few days and special thanks to all the coaches and parents for their commitment to training and travelling to support our members over the past few weeks.

The Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 23rd October at 8pm in the Ard Ri Hotel. We are hoping for a good turnout of parents to ensure the continued growth and success of the club.
