Galway United supporters who used pyrotechnics at Eamon Deacy Park on Friday evening in a 2-2 draw with Waterford have been criticised by the club.
Galway United said that the FAI will now issue the club with a fine, and that financial penalties will have an influence on its ability to ‘put the best team possible on the pitch’.
The club also said that using pyros is a ‘genuine safety hazard’ to those around and has the potential to cause injury.
In a statement, Galway United said: “Flares disrupt play and people’s enjoyment of games and the toxins they contain can seriously damage health which can cause life-threatening injury or concern, FLARES ARE NOT PERMITTED FOR USE IN EAMONN DEACY PARK.”
Galway United thanked fans for their fantastic support recently however, and said they hope supporters continue to create an amazing atmosphere in Eamonn Deacy Park without the use of any pyrotechnics or flares going forward.
