A school outside of Loughrea has been given the green light for a massive expansion of its sports facilities.

New Inn Community School has received planning permission from the county council for three new pitches and courts, along with other sports facilities.

This will include an astroturf pitch, multipurpose pitch, a basketball court, a ball wall, walkway, and associate lighting to the rear of the school.

Due to the site gradient, the area has been designed with a split level, with the sloped part of the site to serve as a terraced spectator area.

Planning permission was granted by Galway County Council with 13 conditions attached.

The council ordered the proposed parking to be redesigned, removing 10 perpendicular parking spaces on the main access road, and creating parallel rather than perpendicular coach parking spaces.
