Connacht Rugby and the IRFU have announced that Michael Kiely has been appointed the new Head of Athletic Performance for the province.

Michael Kiely is best known for his time as the Head of Performance with the Limerick Senior Hurling Team.

During that time from 2019 to last year, he helped them achieve multiple Munster and All-Ireland Championship titles.

Kiely is replacing David Howarth in the role, who is departing after giving Connacht five years of service in the position.

“Everyone at Connacht and the IRFU thanks David for his huge contribution to the club and wishes him every success into the future.”

Michael Kiely has most recently been the Athletic Performance Coach with Ulster Rugby last season.

He has also completed a PhD in Exercise Physiology and Strength & Conditioning.
