Kilkerrin/Clonberne gave a scary reminder to would be pretenders with this demolition as they kicked off their six-in-a-row attempt in emphatic fashion.
Ailish Morrissey struck a hat-trick, Nicola Ward scored a stunning goal and Kevin Reidy’s charges made a significant statement of intent. From the first whistle, Kilkerrin/Clonberne charged at their opponents winning a free which Olivia Divilly converted. But by the two-minute mark, they were seven clear.
Lynsey Noone and Ailish Morrissey struck goals before a Maeve Flanagan point made it 2-2 to 0-0 before further minors for Galway under 16 captain Hannah Noone, Lynsey Noone and Annette Clarke made the margin double digits opened Caltra Cuan’s account.
Noone had earlier tested keeper Lisa Murphy but this was a frustrating afternoon Caltra. Flanagan and Hannah Noone registered before Caltra captain Emma Naughton got their second. Divilly and Morrissey troubled the umpires making it 2-9 to 0-2 on 18 minutes.
There was a bite to the tie with supporters contesting linesmen and challenges thrown in like it was a nail biting battle. But only one team was doing the scoring and Kilkerrin/Clonberne delivered a goal of the season contender.
Taking possession around her own ‘45, the Galway midfielder went on one of her trademark runs ripping the Caltra defence to shreds before reaching the opposing penalty box. She saw Clarke to her right playing the one-two before fisting past Theresa Loughnane.
Morrissey again provided the perfect follow-up with the fourth goal and finished a move involving Clarke and Divilly for a sweet lob into the top corner before half-time giving Kilkerrin/Clonberne a 5-13 to 0-4 interval lead.
Emma Reaney and Naughton got Caltra’s points and they added four more in the second half through Reaney (3) and Caoimhe Ni Ceallaigh. But Kilkerrin/Clonberne remained relentless reaching the 10-goal figure before the three-quarter mark.
Captain Louise Ward didn’t start but entered at half-time. She was involved in goals for Flanagan, a Clarke penalty and sister Nicola before getting her own goal on 42 minutes.
And Clarke finished the goal feast before they concluded with further scores for Morrissey, Nicola and Louise Ward, Siobhan Divilly and Flanagan.
