Two Galway women have claimed their place in the Olympics in the Qualification Regatta for rowing teams from around the world this morning.

Galway’s Fiona Murtagh and Aifric Keogh, along with teammates Eimear Lambe and Emily Hegarty came first in the Women’s Four regatta in Lucerne today.

Fiona Murtagh from Moycullen rows with NUIG Boat Club and Galway RC, while Furbo’s Aifric Keogh is with NUIG/Colaiste Iognaid RC, and also with her college club at UCC.

They have now become the fifth Irish boat team to qualify for the rowing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held later this summer.

The finals of the Qualification Regatta were originally due to take place on Monday, but were brought to today due to rain forecast tomorrow.
