All grass pitches operated by the city council have been closed with immediate effect due to the weather.
Galway City Council announced this afternoon that it is shutting all of the grass pitches it operates this weekend for safety reasons.
This is due to the excessive rainfall of the past week, and the forecast for more rain to come.
The closure has been enacted with immediate effect.
Galway City is expected to see more or less continuous rain for the rest of the day, heavy at times, and into the early hours of Saturday.
Conditions will improve somewhat on Saturday and Sunday according to Met Eireann, but further rain is forecast next week.
