Award-winning artist Alan Clarke has been commissioned to develop a spectacular new sculpture for Galway City’s newest bridge.
‘Gailbhe’ will be a stunning visual representation of Galvia or Gaillimh, who was a mythological princess of the Firbolg tribe, after whom Galway is said to be named.
The sculpture will grace the new Salmon Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge. This project is funded by the Department of Transport through the Percent for Art scheme.
Alan Clarke submitted his proposal in response to an open invitation for expressions of interest by Galway City Council in the summer of 2023, along with 26 other artists.
He was selected as the winning artist in late 2023 by an evaluation panel of multidisciplinary experts.
Among his many accomplishments, Alan Clarke is the only Irish person to be accepted as a member of the internationally acclaimed Society of Portrait Sculptors. This exclusive 70-year-old society has just 46 members worldwide.
Speaking about his winning submission, Alan Clarke said he is looking forward to creating this special sculpture for the people of Galway and the many national and international visitors to the city.
“I am absolutely delighted to have won the commission to create this sculpture, I’m looking forward immensely to getting to work on this project over the coming weeks and months.”
“I believe I have created a design that is captivating and unique, that will enhance an already very beautiful setting. I hope that the people of Galway, and visitors to the city, will feel the same when it is unveiled later this year.”
Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Eddie Hoare, commented, “As a former European Capital of Culture, and a city of festivals and the arts, I welcome this commission, particularly as it will be in such a high-profile, and visible location.”
“The new Salmon Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge was opened to the public in May 2023 – creating a focal point for locals and tourists alike to cross the river on foot or by bike, taking in views including the Cathedral, Salmon Weir Bridge, aquatic and airborne wildlife, natural and built heritage synonymous with the city – and a new public space for the people of Galway.”
“This commission will add another element of attraction and interest to this space for all those crossing the bridge – I look forward to seeing Galvia when she takes her place by the river Corrib overlooking her namesake city”.
Rodent droppings which posed a hazard to the safety of food at a butcher in Galway City were cited in an FSAI enforcement order in January.
F Herterich’s Pork Butchers on Lombard Street in Galway was one of four businesses served with an enforcement order by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland last month.
Three closure orders were served on the butcher in Galway, Golden Palace restaurant in Dublin, and O’Brien’s Gala in Ennis, Co. Clare.
The closure order for F Herterich’s Pork Butchers was served on January 10, and then lifted on January 23.
The other closure orders for O’Brien’s Gala and Golden Palace were lifted on January 24 and February 2 respectively.
Commenting, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI, stressed the importance of complying with food safety legal requirements that have been set to ensure the protection of consumer health.
“In January, there continued to be a number of food businesses who failed to ensure appropriate food safety management systems were in place and operating correctly.”
“It is a legal requirement that all food businesses take responsibility in ensuring their premises are maintained to the standard required by Irish food law.”
“Food safety requirements are put in place to protect the health of consumers. Consumers have a right to safe food,” said Dr Byrne.
“By failing to keep reasonable food safety and hygiene standards in place, a business not only poses a risk to the health of their customers, but also to their own reputation as a trustworthy and safe food business.”

If you’re hoping to get involved with horse racing betting, our experts have lined up their top picks for the best horse racing betting sites in Ireland! We’ll also take you through some of the features that make these the best betting sites for Irish punters.
After extensive research, our experts selected bet365 as the top horse racing betting site for players in Ireland. It was chosen as our number one horse racing betting site due to its range of great features and generous bonuses.
bet365 was chosen by our team of experts to be the best horse racing betting site out of all the betting sites Ireland for many reasons. For a start players can find a variety of competitive odds for all of their favourite sports, of course including horse racing. These odds are considered to be among the best by avid bettors. Another great feature of this site is the range of casino games on offer, allowing players to enjoy a range of betting options.
What We Liked / What Could Be Improved
When it came down to it, there were many features that our experts and players alike enjoyed about this top horse racing betting site. The site is vast, with dedicated sections for betting, casino, bingo, fantasy, poker, and more; this means that when signing up for this great site, you will find everything you could possibly want to fill your betting experience with excitement. However, due to the site’s sheer size, it can be overwhelming to new bettors, so keep this in mind.
Pros:
Cons:
✅ Great competitive odds
❌ Large site can be hard to navigate
✅ Variety of sports betting options
✅ Casino games offered
✅ Range of promos
2. Betway – Best Horse Racing Site for Competitive Odds
Expert Rating: 4.8/5
Up next on our list is Betway. This great site is so loved for many reasons but most significantly for its unique competitive odds for horse racing and a variety of other sports markets. In fact, the odds leave other sites with something to be desired. On top of this, users can also find a variety of promotions for both new and existing customers, which entices new players and keeps existing customers interested.
What We Liked / What Could Be Improved
As we mentioned above, there are many great things about this site that both our experts and customers rave about, including how easy the site is to use and navigate, meaning it is a hotspot for new players. The only thing about Betway that left our experts slightly disappointed was the few payment methods offered; although the ones that are there are easy to use and secure, many players, including our team, would’ve enjoyed some more.
Pros:
Cons:
✅ Range of top horse racing offers
❌ Long terms and conditions
✅ Generous welcome promo
✅ Easy to use betting site
✅ Regularly updated odds
3. Spreadex – Best Betting Site for Horse Racing Live
Expert Rating: 4.7/5
If you are an avid bettor who prefers to bet on their favourite sports live, then Spreadex is the site for you. Of all the racing betting sites Ireland on our list, Spreadex is by far the best for live-streaming betting services. Spreadex also has a range of other great features; among these is its great horse racing betting offer, which can be claimed by new customers at the time of writing this.
What We Liked / What Could Be Improved
Another key feature we enjoyed about Spreadex was its focus on balancing traditional betting and spread betting. Spread betting is when you wager on the outcome of an event where the payout is based solely on the bet’s accuracy; this allows users to place a larger variety of bets.
There are two issues we found with the site during our research. For starters, the home page is rather cluttered, which is fine for experienced bettors but becomes more difficult if you are new to the gambling scene. The second is that there is no loyalty scheme, but users shouldn’t worry as there are often various bonuses and promos to make up for this lack.
Pros:
Cons:
✅ Live streaming options
❌ Overwhelming website
✅ Casino section
✅ Results page
✅ Good customer support options

Promotions and in-play betting aren’t the only great features found at BetVictor. Users can also enjoy a great mobile betting app allowing bets to be placed on the go. Although the BetVictor app has been reported as slow by some users, we did not encounter an issue while betting on its dedicated mobile app.
Pros:
Cons:
✅ Well-designed site
❌ Extensive T&Cs that can be confusing
✅ Live chat options
✅ All sports markets you could want
✅ Good range of promos
5. Boylesports – Best Racing Site for Customer Support
Expert Rating: 4.6/5
Last but certainly not least is Boylesports. As we mentioned above, Boylesports is the best betting site on our list for customer support, also making it the top horse racing betting site for new players. Not only are the customer support options some of the best in the business, but the site is also easy to use with a quick and straightforward signup process. As well as this users at Boylesports can also make use of the various betting markets on offer.
What We Liked / What Could Be Improved
Regarding improvements, we think that Boylesports could do with some more payment methods, although the ones on offer are some of the top methods available, some of our favourites were still missing.
However, what they lack in payment methods, they make up for with top-notch competitive odds, sports market variety, and casino game options make up for. Boylesports is definitely a top horse racing site worth giving a go.
Pros:
Cons:

❌ Fewer payment methods than other sites

How Our Experts Rank the Best Horse Racing Betting Sites
These are our top picks for the best horse racing betting sites, but how do our experts decide which are the best? The answer is that they have a strict list of criteria the sites must meet to be considered for the list. Below is what you can expect from our top picks!
Range of Horse Racing Betting Markets
It should probably go without saying, but the best horse racing betting sites need to have good markets for horse racing. This means betting on many events and different outcomes, whether it’s just the winner, the number of wins for a jockey in a day, the leader after a certain distance, or whatever else. We want options and flexibility in the way we make our wagers.
Payment Options
Standard across all sorts of gambling sites is the need for a variety of payment options. We don’t all manage our money in the same way, so the best horse racing betting sites will host multiple deposit and withdrawal options to cater to more punters. We like to see big names like Visa, MasterCard and PayPal so we know the site will be accessible to anyone with the popular payment methods. However, seeing a diverse range of options, including debit cards, e-wallets, direct bank transfers, pre-paid cards, and pay-by-phone options, is more important.
Competitive Betting Odds
It’s an industry standard for sportsbooks nowadays that they keep competitive odds. Some Sportsbooks even go out of their way to match all their leading competitors. So, while it’s recommended that any enthusiastic punter registers with a handful of horse racing betting sites to look between the odds, we won’t even consider a site that doesn’t use modern technology and predictive experts to keep up with the rest of the competition.
Live Streaming Betting & Event Coverage
One of the best features of online horse racing betting is the option of live streaming. Nowadays, we can watch our bets get settled in real-time from the same place we made the wager! All the best betting sites Ireland must have live-streaming features, especially for the season’s most anticipated events. In fact, sometimes there will be races you can’t watch from home without a good betting site!
Customer Service Options
Even the best horse racing betting sites aren’t going to be perfect 100% of the time. As such, a solid customer service system with multiple contact options must be in place. At the very least, we want two contact options, such as live chat, email and telephone, and the help should be prompt, friendly and reliable.
Compatibility with Mobile
Sports betting is increasingly becoming an activity we like to take on the go, whether it’s to a friend’s place to watch together or down the pub to spectate with the community. We’ve come to expect some form of mobile compatibility from our top horse racing betting sites. This means we want the site to work well through mobile, with the same level of performance regardless of device. Even better would be for the sportsbook to feature a dedicated mobile app, offering a smoother, more streamlined experience on the smaller screen.
If you are more interested in betting on horse racing via a mobile app, check out our dedicated review page; read more here.
Promotions and Offers
These wouldn’t be the best horse racing betting sites without a good selection of promotions. Of course, this includes the welcome bonus, but we also want to see regular deals for returning customers. This could include odds boosts, best odds guaranteed offers and faller insurance. We’ve detailed some of the best offers at sportsbooks later in this article. Promotions should be easy to claim and have fair and easy-to-understand terms and conditions. T&Cs to look out for include wagering requirements, deposit requirements, expiry dates, max winnings, odds restrictions, and more.
User Experience and Reputation
We like to form our own opinions on the sites we review, letting our experience with a site speak for itself. The site should function smoothly, with an intuitive interface and attractive graphics. People who are new to a site shouldn’t have trouble finding their way around. However, we also like to look at existing reviews of horse racing betting sites. You can tell a lot about a website from what existing customers have to say about it, even if you have to be careful who you take at face value.
Safety and Security Measures
Finally, but arguably most important, is the safety of a site. You’re putting your hard-earned money into the sportsbook and potentially sharing sensitive information, so you want to know that the site will protect your data. We like to see strong encryption security across the whole site, not only the payment pages. And, of course, we don’t so much as look at a racing betting site that isn’t properly licensed and legally operating within Ireland.

Best Horse Racing Offers in Ireland
Bonuses and promotions are the true advantages punters receive when betting online — these deals push each euro further than they might otherwise and can even protect against accidents. Here’s a look at some of the offers you can claim from a best horse racing betting site Ireland.
Welcome Promotions
The most important promotion on the site is the welcome offer! It brings new customers to the site and is used to advertise, too; as such, it tends to be the most generous offer on the betting site. Welcome promotions are most commonly an offer of free bets upon a qualifying wager but can involve other deals simultaneously, such as money-back deals or even free spins if the betting site also functions as a casino.
Free Bets
Free bets are the classic bonus you’ll find at the best horse racing betting sites Ireland. They’re exactly what it says on the tin: bets that don’t cost you money to place but win you real money if they payout. You can receive these in multiple ways, like the welcome offer or seasonal promotions. They’re sometimes sport or bet-type-specific, or they might be restricted to major events, such as Cheltenham Festival free bets. You won’t receive the stake back on a bet placed with most free bets, but all profits will be paid out.
Betting Without the Favourite
Sometimes, you’ll encounter a race where one racer is all but guaranteed to win. While this is good news for the owner, it’s less exciting for all the punters after an exciting bet. For these cases, there are betting without the favourite offers — these remove the favourite from the betting and adjust the odds to account for the absence. This evens out the playing field and provides a more entertaining experience for punters.
Faller Insurance
There’s nothing quite so frustrating as when accidents interfere with your bets. Faller Insurance provides a safety net in the event of disaster. If a horse you’re backing in a jump race falls, you’ll receive your stake back in free bets to wager again later. This won’t cover all incidents in a race, such as stumbling or refusing to run, but it does grant you a little more breathing room.
First Past the Post
A first-past-the-post deal guarantees if a horse that came in first is later demoted due to misbehaviour or interference, the sportsbook will still pay out the original winner as well as the new winner. This prevents you from experiencing that letdown after the high of watching the racer you backed cross the finishing line. This deal usually only applies to the first horse in a race that you bet on, not subsequent backings for a single race.
Extra Places
A popular racing bet is an each-way bet, a wager that pays out when a racer places in one of a few consecutive places, such as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. An extra places offer does what it says: it adds extra places to that winning condition. So, in our earlier example, it might add 1st or 5th place, raising your odds of a payout further.
Money Back As A Free Bet
Not every wager ends up paying out; any seasoned punter is well aware of that. But thanks to this, we sometimes come across these fantastic safety-net deals. A ‘money back as a free bet’ deal means you’ll receive any stakes back as free bets if it’s recorded as a loss once it’s settled. Usually, this free bet has to be wagered as one and can’t be split up.
Popular Horse Racing Betting Options
There are many types of bets you can place on the best horse racing betting site of your choosing! Here’s a look at some of the most popular types of bets you find at these betting sites:
Race Winner — The most common type of bet, a wager on which racer will win.
Each-Way — A bet on a racer finishing in a range of places instead of just one, such as 1st or 2nd. Each place costs extra, but you’ll pay out more the higher your racer places.
Accumulator — Sometimes referred to as an ‘acca.’ A single bet comprises four or more selections; all selections must win for the bet to pay out.
Ante-Post — a bet placed before the main betting market opens, which could be days or months before the race day.
Forecast — a bet on the horses that place first and second in a race, where you guess which wins accurately.
Reverse Forcast — a bet on the horses that finish in first and second, but in no particular order.
Trixie — three selections and four bets, i.e. three doubles and a treble. A minimum of two selections must win to guarantee a payout.
Yankee — four selections and eleven bets: six doubles, four trebles and a fourfold. At least two selections must win for a payout.
Super Yankee/Canadian — two names for the same thing. Five selections consisting of 26 bets: ten doubles, ten trebles, five fourfolds and a five fold acca.
Lucky 15, 31, & 63 — There are three types of lucky bets, with the number indicating how many bets are made across the selections. Only one bet needs to be paid out to guarantee a return.
Heinz — this six-selection bet combines every form of the selections in a single mega-bet, with 57 total bets. The 57 is where the nickname ‘Heinz Bet’ comes from, referring to the company slogan.
Super Heinz — an enhanced Heinz bet; a huge wager which makes a total of 120 bets across seven selections. At least 2 of your selections must win for a payout.

Despite the recent downturn in the cryptocurrency market, institutional investors remain optimistic about the long-term potential of digital assets. Evidence suggests that these investors have become even more active in purchasing crypto during the bear market, indicating their belief in the enduring value of assets such as Bitcoin. Such world-known companies as MicroStrategy, Tesla, JPMorgan, PayPal, and numerous others still maintain their investments in Bitcoin, indicating their long-term confidence in its value.
Nowadays, investors are more cautious about complying with regulations, choosing reliable partners and exchanges, and ensuring the safety of their crypto funds. Regulated cryptocurrency platforms, such as the WhiteBIT institutional crypto exchange, with their trustworthy custody services and strong protection measures, make it easier for institutional investors to enter the market.
This article will show how cryptocurrency institutional investors use digital assets and what benefits they see in them. Let’s start by asking “How?” and conclude with “Why?”.
How Do Institutions Use Crypto?
The most popular ways institutional investors engage with cryptocurrencies include:
Direct investment. Purchasing cryptocurrencies directly on exchanges and holding them, often using specialized custodial services to ensure security.
Crypto funds. Hedge funds or venture capital funds provide exposure to the asset class without requiring direct purchase or management of the assets.
Institutional crypto trading futures and derivatives. Engaging in the cryptocurrency market through derivatives like futures and options to hedge against volatility or to take speculative positions.
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Institutions invest in ETFs that track the price of cryptocurrencies, offering a regulated and familiar investment tool.
Tokenization. It is converting an asset or its ownership rights into digital form using blockchain technology. Tokenization offers many benefits, such as access to new clients and capital, growing liquidity, fractionalization, eliminating middlemen, lowering costs, etc. One of the main benefits is the possibility to automate business processes through smart contracts. Investors may buy tokenized assets or tokenize their own assets.
What Drives Crypto Institutional Investment?
Institutional investors have shown increasing interest in cryptocurrencies, perceiving them as both a potential investment opportunity and a strategic asset. Their perception is shaped by a mix of skepticism due to the risks and volatility and recognition of the potential benefits. As the market matures, more institutions are considering or actively engaging in crypto investments. They are driven by diversification, inflation hedge, high returns, innovation, tokenization, and technological advancement. As the market matures and more institutions engage in crypto investments, we should expect further advancement in the crypto sector.
In Ireland’s dynamic business environment, traditional financing avenues may not always align with the diverse needs and circumstances of businesses. Fortunately, a spectrum of alternative finance solutions has emerged, offering flexibility, accessibility, and innovative funding mechanisms. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore some of the alternative finance options available to businesses in Ireland, including alternative business loans, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending, and invoice financing.
Alternative Business Loans
Alternative business loans stand as a robust alternative to conventional bank loans, offering expedited approval processes, adaptable terms, and relaxed eligibility criteria. Provided by alternative lenders, fintech firms, and online platforms, these loans cater to a broad range of businesses, including startups and SMEs. They can be utilised for various purposes such as working capital needs, expansion endeavours, equipment acquisitions, or inventory financing. With their streamlined processes and tailored offerings, alternative business loans empower businesses to secure funding swiftly and efficiently.
Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding has revolutionised the fundraising landscape by providing businesses with a platform to solicit capital from a diverse pool of individual investors. Through online platforms like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Seedrs, businesses can present their projects or ventures to a global audience and secure funding in exchange for rewards, equity, or debt. Crowdfunding offers businesses a unique opportunity to validate their concepts, engage with their target audience, and access capital without the constraints of traditional financing channels. In Ireland, crowdfunding has gained traction as an innovative funding solution, enabling businesses to bring their ideas to life and foster community support.
Peer-to-Peer Lending
Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms facilitate direct lending transactions between businesses and individual investors, eliminating the need for intermediaries like banks. These platforms offer businesses competitive interest rates, simplified application procedures, and flexible repayment terms. By leveraging P2P lending platforms such as Linked Finance and Flender, businesses can access capital more expediently and transparently than through traditional lending institutions. P2P lending has democratised access to finance, enabling businesses of all sizes to secure funding from a decentralised network of investors.
Invoice Financing
Invoice financing provides businesses with a means to unlock the value of their outstanding invoices, thereby enhancing cash flow and liquidity. Through invoice factoring or invoice discounting arrangements, businesses sell their unpaid invoices to finance providers at a discount in exchange for immediate cash. This alternative finance solution is particularly beneficial for businesses grappling with extended payment cycles or seeking to bridge cash flow gaps. Invoice financing empowers businesses to access working capital promptly, enabling them to pursue growth opportunities and manage their financial obligations effectively.
In conclusion, alternative finance solutions offer businesses in Ireland a diverse array of options to address their funding needs and propel growth. Whether through alternative business loans, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending, or invoice financing, businesses can access tailored funding solutions that align with their objectives and circumstances. By embracing innovation and exploring alternative finance avenues, businesses can navigate financial challenges, seize opportunities, and thrive in the competitive landscape of Ireland’s business ecosystem.

In the digital age, data privacy is a big concern, particularly in the online betting industry, where vast amounts of personal and financial information are processed daily. Ensuring the confidentiality and security of this data is not just a matter of trust but a legal imperative. Highly secure betting sites are leading the way in implementing stringent data protection measures, setting the benchmark for the industry. This article looks into the many ways bookmakers are upholding user data privacy, the importance of these practices in the digital betting landscape, and the technologies and regulations driving these key privacy measures.
Investigating the Measures to Ensure User Data Privacy
Bookmakers implement several methods to safeguard user data. They primarily utilise advanced encryption technologies like SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption, guaranteeing the confidentiality of data exchanged between users and the site. To further enhance security, sophisticated firewalls and intrusion detection systems are in place, preventing unauthorised access and cyber threats. Additionally, bookmakers follow stringent data management policies, ensuring responsible collection, usage, and storage of user information. These policies are typically transparent, providing users with clarity on data handling and empowering them with control over their personal details.
Analysing the Significance of Data Protection
Data protection is not just a technical issue but a cornerstone of the online betting industry’s integrity. The assurance of data privacy enhances user trust, which is crucial in maintaining and growing the customer base. In an era where data breaches and cyber threats are increasingly common, a bookmaker’s ability to protect user data directly impacts its reputation and, ultimately, its success.
Furthermore, data privacy has a direct correlation with user experience. Secure platforms enable users to bet with peace of mind, knowing their personal and financial information is safe from prying eyes. This level of security is essential in building long-term relationships with users.
Regulations & Encryption Technologies in Safeguarding User Information
The role of regulations in ensuring data privacy cannot be understated. Legal frameworks like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set stringent guidelines for data handling and privacy, compelling bookmakers to comply with high standards of data protection. These regulations mandate transparency, user consent, and the right to data erasure, among other user protections. Encryption technologies also play a role in this privacy ecosystem. Advanced encryption not only secures data in transit but also ensures the safe storage of information. Techniques like two-factor authentication (2FA) add an extra layer of security, verifying the user’s identity and preventing unauthorised access.
Our Final Thoughts
Data privacy is a significant aspect of the online betting industry, forcing a multifaceted approach involving advanced technologies, rigorous policies, and adherence to legal regulations. The UK online betting operators in particular prioritise the privacy and security of user data by not only complying with legal requirements but also gaining the trust of their users, creating a secure and reliable betting environment. As technology evolves and cyber threats become more sophisticated, the continuous adaptation and development of data protection measures will remain a vital focus for bookies to ensure the safety and confidence of their members. The commitment to safeguarding personal information is not just a regulatory obligation but a cornerstone of ethical and customer-focused business practice in the highly competitive world of online betting.
Galway boasts a rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and a vibrant community. Despite its undeniable charm, the city’s tourism figures could benefit from initiatives to attract more visitors. Recently, the county adopted a new Tourism Strategy for 2023-2031, centred around sustainable tourism, job creation, and support. Besides this approach, there are other ways that Galway can compete with Dublin in numbers.
Dive Deeper into Authenticity
While the city offers a taste of Irish culture, it can delve deeper. Business owners can go beyond the cliché pub experience and showcase the heart of Irish heritage. By highlighting intimate music sessions in hidden pubs, traditional dance workshops, and storytelling evenings in ancient castles, visitors could truly connect with the soul of Ireland. This shift towards genuine experiences could set Galway apart from Dublin’s more urban offerings.
Its cultural scene can be leveraged to attract tourists throughout the year. Hosting regular cultural events and festivals, such as the Galway International Arts Festival or the Galway Film Fleadh, not only brings in visitors during specific times but also encourages repeat visits.
Embracing culinary tourism can be a transformative strategy to attract food lovers from around the world. Galway can organise vibrant food festivals celebrating local flavours, artisanal produce, and traditional recipes. These events could showcase the region’s unique culinary identity, drawing attention to the wealth of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and the innovative twists chefs bring to traditional Irish dishes.
As part of the culinary tourism strategy, Galway can develop special packages that include dining vouchers, culinary workshops, and guided tours, enticing visitors to explore the city’s food scene comprehensively. Highlighting unique dishes, signature beverages, and the cultural significance of certain foods can set the city apart as a foodie destination.
Seek Partnerships
Partnerships with local businesses, communities, and tourism agencies can significantly boost Galway’s reach and visibility. The online travel company Opodo, for example, with its extensive network and targeted marketing strategies, could connect Galway with potential tourists across the globe and create curated packages highlighting its unique selling points – the charming mediaeval streets, the rugged Connemara landscapes, and the lively festivals. Its expertise in data-driven marketing could tailor these packages to specific demographics and interests, ensuring they resonate with the right audience.
Collaborating with local businesses is a win-win strategy. Establishing partnerships with restaurants, cafes, and shops can create attractive tourist packages, offering discounts and unique experiences. Tailoring marketing campaigns to specific target audiences, such as families, solo travellers, or adventure seekers, can maximise reach and impact.
Customised promotional materials, online advertising, and travel packages can address the unique interests of diverse traveller segments. This not only benefits tourists but also supports the local economy and strengthens the sense of community.
Become a Nature Hub
Galway boasts landscapes rivalling any in Ireland and it could capitalise on this by becoming a hub for outdoor adventures. Activities such as hiking, kayaking, and exploring the Aran Islands can attract adventure seekers, diversifying the tourist demographic and extending the length of their stay. On top of that, partnering with local guides to offer curated tours through the breathtaking national parks could boost job creation.
Its natural beauty, including the Cliffs of Moher and the Connemara National Park, provides an excellent opportunity for ecotourism initiatives as well. Promoting sustainable and eco-friendly tourism can attract a growing segment of environmentally conscious travellers and help preserve the region’s pristine landscapes. Highlighting Galway’s history through heritage preservation projects and interpretive exhibits can make the city more intriguing for history enthusiasts too.
Galway has immense potential to boost its tourism figures by implementing a combination of digital strategies, cultural events, infrastructure development, and targeted marketing. By capitalising on its natural beauty, rich culture, and community spirit, it can position itself as a top destination.

Deputy Seán Canney has called for an immediate reduction in VAT for food businesses to 9% as the sector faces unprecedented challenges.
The call comes ahead of a Private Members Debate next Wednesday morning on the matter, with Deputy Canney saying there is still a glimmer of hope that the government might reverse its stance and provide the essential support SMEs urgently require.
Deputy Canney said that this is not just about numbers – “it’s about survival”. Many retailers and restaurants have already been forced to close their doors, costing precious jobs and eroding the vitality of local communities.
He said that local, family-run businesses are more than just commercial entities.
“They are the cornerstones of community interaction and social cohesion. Their decline signifies not just an economic loss but a profound social one,” the Independent TD said.
“The government’s failure to act not only jeopardises these enterprises but neglects the invaluable social fabric they weave in our lives. SMEs are not merely a segment of our economy; they are its very pulse.”
As the debate approaches, the Regional Group of TDs, of which Deputy Canney is a member, says it is adamant about championing the cause of SMEs.
“Our motion is clear,” he said. “It’s time to stand by the businesses that serve as the backbone of our local economies and communities. We cannot allow the government’s inaction to dim the vibrant spirit of our nation’s towns and villages.
“Join us in this critical moment to demand action and support for our SMEs. Together, we can turn the tide and ensure the survival and thriving of our local businesses. The time to act is now.”
