University of Galway has been named as one of the top universities in Europe, according to the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025.

For the second year in a row, the Europe-wide rankings have placed University of Galway 98th out of almost 700 institutions in more than 40 locations.

The QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025 recognition also builds on the reputation that University of Galway has earned in recent years for progress on sustainability.

It has retained the position in Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings as the number one university in Ireland; top 5 in the EU; and in the world’s top 50, for progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Then President of University of Galway, Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, said: “Being ranked in the top 100 universities in Europe two years in a row, as well as being recognised as number one in Ireland and among the best in the world for sustainability, is a tremendous endorsement of our community of teaching, learning and research and the culture of the people who work at our university.”

“I would like to thank everyone across our University who continues to make the effort to be a university for the public good, true to our values of respect, excellence, openness and sustainability.”

“We are a place of learning and research, that goes without saying. We are distinctive by being more than that. Our university community is built around our people whether you are a student, a member of staff, an academic, a researcher, a technician or among the many who keep our operations running every day of the year.”

“We have made great strides in recent years to be more outward looking, creating a space and carving a place for our university and our work, from this place, at an international level. I wish everyone continued success on that journey.”

“We are also delighted to see three Irish universities in the top 100 in Europe – with University of Galway alongside Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin.”

“This is testament to the capacity of the academic and research community to achieve, despite challenges the sector faces in terms of funding.”

Investing in Nature: How Crypto Is Funding Outdoor Projects

0

Cryptocurrency is an innovative blockchain solution that offers diverse functionality and convenience to organizations, startups,  and individuals. Crypto enables firms to incorporate effortless and matchless financial mechanisms into their business operations, streamlining their operational efficiency.

With the effective integration of blockchain and cryptocurrency, investing in nature for sustainable and eco-friendly projects has become accessible. Numerous environmental conservation and sustainable projects are the hallmarks of cryptocurrency. These projects function with decentralized finance and effective safety protocols that translate to a remarkable revolution in the financial sector.

This article will explore the top 5 outdoor and natural projects that accept funding through cryptocurrency and other blockchain financial solutions like non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This way, you will understand the transformational ability of cryptocurrency towards the environment and nature.

1. TreeCoin

Forestry plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and sustainability of the natural ecosystem. TreeCoin is an innovative outdoor project that amalgamates the driving potential of cryptocurrency with environmental conservation. This revolutionary project presently operates in Paraguay, focusing on streamlining the greenery while envisioning expanding its operation to other parts of the world.

You can invest your capital in the conservation of nature by purchasing cryptocurrency using CoinGate, which is a reputable checkout and payment gateway for businesses. It allows you to get over 70 crypto tokens using USD and credit or debit cards with complete security features.

Once you own crypto, you can invest in the TreeCoin project by purchasing its hybrid tokens, TREE. With TREE, investing in eucalyptus becomes easier. Since Eucalyptus is known for its rapid growth, its cultivation will result in improved environmental conditions.

2. Moss.Earth

Climate change is a serious environmental concern. Moss is a revolutionary outdoor project that employs the leverage of cryptocurrency to reduce climate change and other natural depletion. The primary focus of the Moss project is on tokenizing carbon credits to alleviate carbon footprints globally.

It has a highly secure and robust crypto token, MCO2 tokens. You can invest in Moss.earth and get started with buying MCO2 tokens to facilitate carbon offset projects. With a much-needed effort to streamline critical carbon emissions, it pioneers the conservation of the Amazon rainforest.

Thus, the Moss project’s revenue goes directly into reforestation and conservation of the Amazon rainforest. Operating in Brazil, this outdoor project is the perfect example of the responsible use of innovative technologies like cryptocurrency and blockchain. Moreover, the preservation of biodiversity and protection of the indigenous land of the Amazon are other perks of investing in the Moss project.

3. Terra0

Terra0 is a self-sustaining nature project that runs on top of blockchain technology. It functions like another blockchain application, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). DAO employs blockchain to secure the organizational data and cut off the need for organizational hierarchy, such as executive and managing members.

The main tool that channels Terra0 and DAO functionality is the smart contract. As a self-executive and automated contract using blockchain technology, smart contracts offer versatile functionality. Thus, Terra0 is a DAO that allows investors to take care of the natural resources of a forest, like wood and other natural goods.

Provided that, Terra0 enables investors to sell and make revenue from the cultivated natural products alongside preserving natural resources. The self-sustaining phenomenon of Terra0 makes it a revolutionary outdoor project that supports cryptocurrency to attract investors. Thus, it stands out as one of the best outdoor projects to maintain nature and improve climate.

4. SolarCoin

Solar energy offers incentives to consumers globally by preserving non-renewable energy resources. With solar energy, you can fulfill your energy needs without harming nature through technological procedures like crude oil filtration.

With an outdoor project like SolarCoin, you can earn revenue in the form of SolarCoin when you switch from conventional power to solar energy. SolarCoin is a crypto-based project which is similar to the global reward system for using solar energy.

It not only offers you rewards and incentives but also subsidizes solar energy production. Thus, the objective of the SolarCoin project is to ease the mainstream usage of solar energy globally.

5. Plastic Bank

Water is the inevitable need of humans throughout the world. With over 70% of the land being underwater, water pollution is a leading problem worldwide. A survey on Statista suggests that over 1,000 American citizens worry about polluted drinking water. This reflects the concerns related to polluting water through plastic and other wastes.

Plastic Bank is a transforming outdoor project that incentivizes cleaning oceans and water from plastic and other pollutants. It offers cryptocurrency as a reward for cleaning oceans, making it an attractive project for everyone globally.

This project not only addresses ecological concerns but also enhances social connectivity. By bringing people together to clean out the water, Plastic Bank improves the global supply chain, enhances the quality of drinking water, and promotes responsible usage of plastic materials.

Ending Thoughts

Cryptocurrency is the innovative and useful application of blockchain technology. Apart from financial solutions, crypto is the leading instrument for improving environmental conditions, thanks to various outdoor projects. You can invest in these ecosystem conservation projects using cryptocurrency to ensure a clean and green environment for future generations.

How to Compose Your Online Casino Game Selection

Crafting Your Selection of Online Casino Games

In a landmark move for the regulation of online gambling in the UK, the government has announced first-time stake limits for online slots. This announcement is part of a comprehensive package of proposed gambling reforms outlined in a 268-page white paper published by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in April 2023. As these changes take shape, they promise to create a safer and more regulated online gaming environment.

Understanding the Reform

The DCMS white paper highlights the urgent need for reform in the online gambling sector to better protect players and promote responsible gambling. The proposed stake limits aim to curb excessive gambling behavior and reduce the risk of financial harm among players. The paper states, “This reform is essential to ensure that online slots do not lead to disproportionate levels of harm and that they remain a form of entertainment rather than a source of financial distress.”

The Role of Bookmakers

Online Casinos like Betiton and others in the industry are encouraged to align with the government’s white paper proposals. By doing so, they will not only adhere to the new statutory limits but also demonstrate a commitment to responsible gambling practices. This alignment involves integrating the new stake limits into their platforms and educating their users about responsible gambling.

Navigating the Online Casino Landscape

Considering these upcoming changes, players need to understand the variety of games available and how to choose the ones that best suit their preferences while adhering to the new regulations.

Types of Casino Games

Slots: Characterized by reels and multiple symbols, these games are straightforward – place a bet and spin. Slots often feature unique elements like bonus rounds and free spins.

Table Games: This category includes online blackjack, roulette, poker, and baccarat. Some, like blackjack, require strategic knowledge, while others, like roulette, are based purely on chance.

Live Dealer Games: These are table games presented via live broadcast, allowing multiple players to join simultaneously. The live chat feature and fast pace add to the excitement.

Lotto and Bingo: Simple games of chance where players bet on a series of numbers and win if their numbers are drawn.

Scratch Cards: Easy to play – just reveal three or more identical symbols to win.

Slingo: A hybrid of slots and bingo, offering a unique blend of gameplay.

Choosing the Right Games

To maximize your gaming experience while adhering to the new stake limits, consider the following factors:

Game Provider: Opt for games from reputable providers like Microgaming, Playtech, Novomatic, Playson, and Evolution. These companies ensure fair play and high-quality entertainment.

Theme & Features: Casinos often categorize games by theme (e.g., Egyptian, Far West) or features (e.g., Megaways, Drop & Wins). This helps in finding games that match your interests.

Demo Games: Playing demo versions can help you understand game mechanics and decide which ones you enjoy most.

Mobile Compatibility: Ensure the games you choose are compatible with your mobile devices for flexible gameplay.

“As the UK government moves to implement these significant reforms, it is crucial for both players and operators to adapt to the new landscape of online gambling,” says Daniel Chapman, Editor in Chief for MyBettingSite.uk. By understanding the available game types and choosing those that align with your preferences and the new regulations, you can enjoy a safe and entertaining gaming experience. Remember to gamble responsibly, staking only what you can afford to lose, and stay informed about new releases and features that can enhance your gameplay.

How AI and Machine Learning are Revolutionizing Sports Betting Technology

0
Galway Daily sport Galway Races Ladies day race 2 results

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has reached unprecedented heights across various sectors, and the gambling industry is no exception. According to Orla Byrne, Editor in Chief for Betinireland, “Professionals and amateurs alike are integrating AI sports betting technology for purposes ranging from predictive analysis to risk management and fraud detection. This technological advancement is revolutionizing sports betting in Ireland.”

The application of AI in sports betting is transforming user experience and content delivery. Byrne explains, “With betting heavily reliant on massive databases, AI is emerging as a solution for many industry challenges, including customer interactions, information handling, and productivity. By employing statistical algorithms and machine learning models, AI can determine the probability of outcomes based on historical data. This leads to improved customer insights, automation, and enhanced betting accuracy.”

A solid betting strategy is crucial for successful wagering. Byrne notes, “AI allows bettors to better understand odds and the methodologies bookmakers use to set them. This is particularly beneficial for live betting, where odds can shift dramatically in seconds. AI’s data analysis capabilities help identify patterns that may influence event outcomes, thus refining betting strategies.”

Live betting poses a challenge due to the rapid and unpredictable changes in odds. AI technology improves decision-making during live betting through instantaneous data analysis as games progress. “Rather than relying solely on pre-game statistics,” Byrne says, “punters can benefit from automated real-time data analysis, saving time and increasing prediction accuracy. However, this convenience could also heighten the risk of gambling problems.”

Financial management is a critical aspect of online sports betting. Byrne emphasizes, “AI assists bettors in making informed decisions about when and how much to wager. For pre-game bets, AI offers reliable insights into the likelihood of success, indicating optimal moments for cashing out. Additionally, AI-generated analytics help identify fraudulent betting sites and deceptive betting patterns, safeguarding both players and providers.”

AI’s prowess in customer satisfaction is well-documented, with tech giants like Google leveraging it for tailored content. In sports betting, AI can similarly enhance the player experience by offering personalized betting tips and strategies, leading to increased betting accuracy. AI’s data collection and analysis capabilities make it easier for betting companies to detect unusual gambling patterns, which may signal underlying gambling problems. Addressing these issues proactively can mitigate the negative effects of unhealthy gambling behaviors.

Recently, SoftBank announced a groundbreaking development: “Where they have developed voice-altering technology with AI that makes angry customers sound calm on phone with a goal of reducing the psychological burden on call center operators.” This innovation underscores the potential of AI in improving customer service interactions. “Best Irish Bookmaker like DirectionBet Sports, could consider integrating similar AI technologies in their customer service lines,” suggests Byrne. “By adopting AI-driven solutions, these bookmakers can enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, setting a new standard in the gambling industry.”

In summary, AI technology is increasingly prevalent in sports betting for its diverse benefits. While it offers substantial advantages, including improved accuracy and personalized recommendations, the potential for related harms must also be acknowledged. The future of AI in sports betting promises both exciting opportunities and challenges.

Have Your Say on Galway Heritage Plan

0

Community leaders are appealing to the public to have their say on Galway’s Draft Heritage Plan.

The closing date for submissions or observations is on July 25, so now is the time to put your thoughts together, says the Galway City Community Network.

“Galway’s Heritage belongs to everyone, so we all have a right to contribute to future plans for protecting and sharing it,” says GCCN co-ordinator, Jacinta Fay.

Derrick Hambleton from GCCN member organisation, An Taisce, agrees. “Galway has a unique natural, built and cultural heritage that gives the city its identity and which contributes significantly to our wellbeing.”

“The public consultation on the Draft Heritage Plan 2024-2029 is our opportunity to have our say in how this heritage is conserved, enhanced and protected for our benefit and that of future generations.”

Derrick cites the example of the Eglinton Canal locks, saying their repair could boost the restoration of the canal.

He points to many other counties and local authorities who have successfully completed canal restoration projects to benefit tourism and the local
community.

He says it’s also crucial to look ahead to how the plan will be implemented, once it’s agreed.

“Galway City Council should allocate funds in each Annual Budget to cover the costs involved in delivering the Heritage Plan over its 5-year lifespan.”

The Terryland Forest Park Alliance is also a member of GCCN, and their spokesperson is Brendan Smith.

He says the draft Heritage Plan gives the public “a critical opportunity to make their views known on the need to preserve, protect, nurture and enhance our
city’s living landscapes and traditions.”

“Galway city pulsates with a multi-layered heritage of medieval buildings and 19th century canals. We have a mix of active farmland, traditional rural greenways, woods, rivers and seashores rich in native biodiversity. We also have a vibrant culture of song,
dance, literature and drama.”

However, Brendan says ongoing urbanisation impacts negatively on many aspects of this unique heritage, “especially on our natural and rural landscapes. We need to protect these landscapes more than ever before in a time of a global climate and biodiversity
crises.”

GCCN co-ordinator, Jacinta Fay, says each of us will have our own concerns, interests and priorities when it comes to Galway’s diverse heritage.

“The vision in the plan is to conserve, enhance and promote Galway City’s rich heritage through community engagement, sustainable practices, and innovative initiatives.”

“So, whether your focus is on waterways, castles, arts, music or maritime heritage, all views and suggestions are vitally important. We can all help protect our heritage and shape our future by contributing to this plan,” says Jacinta.

GCCN, who represent over 180 local organisations in the city, says their advice is to read through the draft plan first.

The draft plan can be downloaded and read from the city council website here.

Solar panel installations in Galway rise 80% in 2024

0

The number of homeowners carrying out energy efficiency property upgrades and having solar panels installed in Galway has continued to grow by leaps and bounds in 2024.

SEAI figures show that 454 homes in Galway received a grant to help with the installation of solar panels in the first three months of the year.

That represents an 80% year on year increase on the 252 solar PV installations carried out in the same period last year.

One reason for this is a large number of applications made late in the year ahead of the solar PV grant being reduced by €300 at the start of January.

The average cost of having solar panels installed on a home in Q1 2024 was €11,368, with the majority of homeowners receiving the full grant of €2,400.

Overall, 897 property upgrades were carried out with the assistance of SEAI grants across all schemes in Q1 2024.

This is a 40% year on year increase on the same period in 2023, and the third highest number of upgrades carried out in the country after Dublin and Cork.

There were 350 property upgrades carried out through the Better Energy Homes Scheme (+104%), 66 low income households had fully-funded upgrades completed through the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme (+8.2%), and 26 households were upgraded to a B2 of better BER through the One-Stop-Shop Scheme (+136.4%).

Dr Ciaran Byrne, Director of National Retrofit at SEAI said, “From a results perspective 2024 has started off well, with almost all key metrics recording increases on the corresponding period in 2023.”

“Retrofitting activity in the quarter is primarily driven from applications received in Q3 and Q4 of the previous year and these were relatively strong.”

“The overall number of property upgrades completed and B2 upgrades completed increased considerably, with a sizeable portion related to continued high demand for the Solar PV scheme.”

Nationwide over 11,700 property upgrades were completed, up 18% year on year, and over 5,050 homes were upgraded to a BER B2 or higher, up 53% year on year.

A total of 6,005 homes had solar panels installed in Q1, up 51% on 2023, and 4,857 applications for a solar panel grant were made, a 3% year on year increase.

Over 15,450 applications were processed across all schemes, down 1% year on year, and expenditure on SEAI home upgrade grants reached €73 million, up 29% year on year.

Dr Byrne continued, Overall, we can see that the cumulative number of applications across all schemes was essentially flat compared to the same time last year.”

“This points to the need to continue the implementation of the National Retrofit Plan to overcome barriers to retrofit and further drive demand and delivery.”

“Wider potential impacts on the sector also need to be acknowledged such as the challenge of scaling the sector in the face of a labour market approaching capacity.”

“Conversely, the availability of a significant low-cost loan offer will increase the propensity of people to engage in domestic retrofits.”
