Organisations providing youth services in Galway are being encouraged to seek a share of a €2.4 million fund.
Under the new capital grant funding youth clubs, targeted youth services and national youth organisations will be able to apply for grants to fund improvements such as new equipment and small capital projects.
Galway TD Seán Canney said that this is a “great opportunity for Galway youth organisations and services to upgrade their facilities.”
He added that groups working with young people play a “vital role in the development and socialisation of our young people”
The €2.4 million pot of grants was announced by Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone last week as one of the three capital grant schemes for youth organisations being rolled out this year.
The capital scheme for staff led youth services is open to applications from services which received funding under the targeted youth funding scheme of youth information centre scheme.
It follows on from an addition €2 million in funding for volunteer youth clubs announced earlier this year.
These schemes are “In addition to the €60.4m in current funding which has been provided in 2019 for clubs, services and supports for young people,” Minister Zappone said.
These schemes are meant to provide funding for youth organisations to purchase new equipment and fund small scale capital refurbishment projects including the upgrade of bathrooms and kitchens and the purchase of office equipment.
