Galway County Council has appointed a contractor to carry out storm water diversion works on the Low Road in Clifden.
Senator Seán Kyne has confirmed that the works are due to start in the next week.
When complete, the work will reduce the flow of water towards the road, where a number of homes flooded last September.
An Appropriate Assessment has been carried out to allow the works progress without the need for planning.
“I welcome confirmation that works are due to start soon and that further works to reduce the impact on the Low Road are being explored by the Council,” said Senator Kyne.
The Galway senator has been working with Director of Services Jim Cullen to ensure that a solution to the flooding of the Low Road is found.
“The larger CFRAM project for Clifden is being progressed by the Office of Public Works and will examine the flooding in Clifden Glen and the main river channel within the town,” he added.
