Newtown NS in Abbeyknockmoy is set to benefit from investment in Special Needs projects following approval from the Department of Education for works to be carried out at the school.
The works will be done as part of the Emergency Works Scheme which aims to ensure funding is available for urgent works to schools which need resources because of an emergency situation or on receipt of an enrolment application from a special needs pupil.
Minister Ciaran Cannon welcomed the news, saying: “I’m delighted that the Department of Education and Skills has confirmed that approval was given for works to go ahead for Special Needs projects in Newtown NS in Abbeyknockmoy.
“Our schools may be closed for the time being, but the government will continue to invest in these facilities to ensure that these buildings and the surrounding environment serve all the needs of students in the 21st Century and in order that all students can reach their full potential.”
The purpose of the Emergency Works Scheme is solely for unforeseen emergencies and to provide funding to facilitate inclusion and access for special needs pupils.
