Galway daily weather Met Eireann weather warning in force for Galway today

A fresh status yellow weather warning has been issued for Galway today as Storm Lorenzo moves on from the west.

Met Eireann have issued a weather warning for high winds covering Galway, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Mayo, Roscommon and Clare today.

It cautions of sustained southwest winds of 50 – 55km/hr and gusts reaching up to 100km/hr.

The alert will remain in place until 1pm this afternoon.

The cleanup after Storm Lorenzo is progressing this morning, with the ESB working to repair overnight power outages caused by the weather.

Galway County Coumcil has also cleared fallen trees from the N59 near Oughterard and the N65 Potumna to Kilimor road, and has said that is is expecting more calls to its emergency line today.

“Driving conditions remain hazardous and drivers need to take care and be conscious of cyclists and pedestrians. Fallen trees, flying debris and power lines remain a risk,” the council cautions
