Galway Daily news snow and ice weather warning

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering Galway and the northwest of Ireland tonight.

The weather warning states that wintry showers will bring some accumulations of snow, especially on high ground, tonight and into Monday morning.

The alert issued by Met Eireann covers all of Connacht, Cavan and Donegal.

It will be in effect from 6pm this evening and remain in place until 11am tomorrow morning.

The status yellow alert was issued at 10am this morning after a weather advisory on Saturday evening warning of hail, sleet, and snow showers in Connacht and Ulster.

Despite this warning temperatures in Galway are forecast to remain above 0°c tonight, reaching lows of 2°c to 3°c  around midnight and the very early hours of Monday.

There will be scattered showers tonight, heavy at times, and a moderate southwesterly wind.
