Galway Daily weather Status Orange thunderstorm warning in effect for Galway

The recent spell of mostly sunny weather has taken a turn, with Met Eireann issuing a weather warning for heavy rain and and thunderstorms across most of Ireland today.

A status yellow thunderstorm weather warning has been issued for all of Connacht, Munster, and Leinster.

Scattered thunderstorms have been forecast for the country throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.

These will bring heavy downpours of rain, with a risk of hail and localised spot flooding Met Eireann has predicted.

The weather warning will be in effect from midday today until 9pm on Saturday night.

In Galway the worst of it is forecast from the mid-afternoon to early evening, roughly 2pm to 6pm.

Despite the rough conditions, it’s not expected to get too gusty, with moderate southeasterly winds turning light and variable headed into the afternoon.

Highest temperatures today of 10 to 12 degrees, dropping to around 6 or 7 degrees overnight.
