Pupils at St. Patrick’s National School in Galway city centre were over the moon after winning the environmental sustainability award at the Mayor’s Awards this week.

The school’s pupils worked hard to win the award, creating a container garden in school using recycled materials and bringing their plants home during lockdown last year, as well as creating more garden spaces on window sills, patios and balconies.

They also grew food for the Galway Claddagh Swan Rescue animals, made wellbeing a priority in school and at home, and created a new outdoor shelter to allow for music classes and outdoor lessons.
