Only one day this week saw University Hospital Galway not making the top three list for the highest number of trolleys according to INMO figures.

UHG has 39 patients without a proper bed today according to Trolley/Ward Watch figures, behind only Limerick University Hospital (55), and UHC (53).

Tuesday was the only day this week when UHG didn’t break into the top three worst affected hospitals, coming in a narrow fourth, even with 41 people on trolleys.

In Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe there are a further six people admitted but going without a bed today.

In total the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says that there are 455 patients waiting for a bed in acute hospitals today.

Though it is still just the first week of February the three worst days for overcrowding on record have all been this year.

For two consecutive days in January there were 760 people without beds, and earlier this week saw the second highest level of 640 on trolleys.
