Tuam NCT centre to open in early March

The long awaited NCT centre in Tuam is expected to open early next month a Galway TD has said.

Galway East TD Seán Canney said that contracts have been signed for the NCT centre on the Dublin road in Tuam, and it

“It will bring additional business to Tuam, additional footfall to Tuam, and will save thousands of people the journey into Galway to get their NCT done,” Seán Canney said.

It has taken a long time to get here, with the idea for the centre first mooted in 2015.

It was another three years before work got underway in the summer of 2018 converting the former Hi-Way Garage on the Dublin Road to its new use.

The newly re-elected Deputy Canney added that this project is delivering, not just for Tuam, but for people across north and east Galway.

Work on building the two-lane centre was completed last December, and the final stages have been in equipping it for purpose.

When it opens the NCT centre will employ six people.
