Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the N59 between Recess and Clifden while repair work is taking place after recent flooding.

The N59 was badly flooded in several locations earlier this week after torrential rains overnight last Tuesday, and into Wednesday.

While the road has since reopened, repairs works are ongoing near the Ballinahinch junction, and temporary lights have been erected there to manage traffic.

The lights went up on Friday, and will remain in place until repairs have been completed, with no estimated time for this yet provided.

Clifden town was also badly affected by the flooding, with Galway Fire Service forced to evacuate 17 buildings after the Owenglin

“Galway County Council wish to advise motorists that there will be temporary traffic lights on the N59, between Recess and Clifden, near the Ballinahinch junction,” the county council said on Facebook.

“This is as a safety precaution following damage to the road verge following the heavy rain and flooding earlier this week.”
