A Galway TD has criticised the National Transport Authority for further delays to developing a bus corridor between the City and Claregalway on the N83.
Galway East TD Seán Canney said that the NTA informed him that the proposed bus lane is now awaiting the design outcome of the Bus Connects Network for the city.
“It is unbelievable that there is now another review when everyone knows that the bus lane is imperative if we are to take cars off the roads.”
He said that the bus corridor project has been “pushed around” for years, despite land being available.
Workers travelling to the city need to know that public transport will be reliable, the Independent TD added.
“More money is being spent on reports, reviews, feasibility studies and now another report,” Seán Canney said.
“If we are serious about public transport, we need to spend public money on projects that are achievable, can be delivered and will offer faster services for commuters”
The latest development in the development of Galway City Bus Connects came with proposals for a Cross-City Link put before An Bord Pleanála for consultation last November.
