Just under €800,000 has been awarded for a number of road repair projects on the Aran Islands.
Minister Heather Humphreys said that the funding will be used to resurface three roads on Inis Mór and Inis Oírr
- Inis Mór – Eoghanacht road resurfacing – €315,000
- Inis Mór – Bóthar Ó Thuaidh resurfacing – €297,000
- Inis Oírr – Resurfacing of L-5250 – €175,500
“By investing in these road projects, we will improve mobility on the islands for the benefit of the local community and visiting tourists,” Heather Humphreys said.
“Supporting our islands is a key commitment under ‘Our Rural Future’, the government’s 5-year rural development policy.”
It is unlikely that these projects could be carried out by the end of 2022 due to logistical issues with transporting equipment to the islands in poor winter weather.
These grants have been awarded now so that the council can carry out preparatory works suchnas procuring equipment.
This with a view towards completeting these road resurfacing projects as early as possible next year.
