A stretch of the N59 in Connemara will be closed to heavy commercial vehicles for two weeks in June from Monday due to roadworks taking place.

Galway County Council is closing the N59 from Bun an Choill / Bunnakill to Teach Doite / Maam Cross from June 7 -21.

This traffic ban applies to all commercial vehicles above 3.5 tonnes in weight.

This traffic ban is being imposed due to resurfacing works taking place on the N59.

All westbound heavy vehicle traffic will instead be diverted through the Galway City Coast road (R336), through Barna and An Spidéal, before coming back to the N59 at Maam Cross.

Eastbound commercial traffic will be diverted back along the same route from Maam Cross.

Normal car traffic and bus routes will be accommodated through the roadworks taking place.
