Newtownsmith Road in Galway City centre will remain closed until the end of December while the Salmon Weir Pedestrian & Cycling Bridge is being built.
Galway City Council has confirmed an order extending the road closure until December 22.
The section of road closed to allow construction work to take place is from the junction with the R863 to entrance to the Mercy Convent car park.
Temporary diversion routes will remain in place via Mary Street (L-5096) and St. Francis Street (R866).
Part of the Gaol Link Road on the far side of the river will also be closed from October 29 to December 22 to allow for the assembly and installation of the bridge.
