Traffic lights are currently down along the Headford Road after a water main burst this morning.
The broken traffic lights are opposite Scellig Ard in Ballinfoyle.
Temporary traffic lights are in place while repairs are being carried out.
Galway city council are advising motorists to avoid the road this morning if at all possible.
According to Irish Water, residents of  Barra Na Cluana, Lus Léana, Cluain Fáda, Ballinfoyle Mews and surrounding areas of the city may also lose their water supply.
Repair works for the water main currently have an estimated completion time of 1pm this afternoon.
No timeline has been given yet for when the lights will be restored.
