Strike action by health and community sector workers scheduled to go ahead today has been called off after a pay agreement has been reached.
The workers in Section 39 organisations in SIPTU, Forsa, and the INMO voted to strike late last month in response to a long running pay dispute.
The action was led by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, which said that the government had failed to address serious and growing problem with how the sector funded.
RTÉ reports that talks at the Workplace Relations Commission came to an agreement on pay in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Union representatives accepted an offer for an 8% increase in pay funding, which will be backdated to April this year.
Negotiators had previously rejected an offer of a pay 5% increase from the government.
Among the organisations which would have been affected by the strike include Ability West and the Irish Wheelchair Association.
