A status yellow weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann for Galway and the rest of Ireland.
The weather warning came into force at 12 midday today and it will remain in place until 10pm tonight.
Met Eireann say there is a risk of heavy, thundery downpours across much of the country.
However, the rest of this week will see temperatures rising to the mid to late 20s, and there should be substantial periods of sunshine to accompany the warmer weather.
Friday will be the warmest day this week but the heatwave doesn’t look set to last beyond the weekend.
