Met Eireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for Galway today warning of “severe and damaging gusts” until the later afternoon.
The weather warning states that “Strong and gusty southwest winds will veer westerly early this afternoon with some severe and damaging gusts”.
Heavy squalls of rain are also expected throughout the day accompanying the high winds Met Eireann has advised.
The warning will be in place for Galway and the rest of Ireland until 4pm this afternoon.
The forecaster has put a weather advisory for all of Ireland, cautioning that strong winds on Tuesday could could fall trees damaged by Storm Atiyah.
“Generally, winds will be below warning thresholds but damage to some structures and trees, already weakened from the effects of Storm Atiyah, is possible.”
“Rain and showers will be heavy at times as well, especially in Atlantic coastal counties,” the advisory states.
A warning has also been issued for ocean goers of gales or strong gales on all Irish coastal waters which will veer westerly this afternoon.
