Met Eireann has upgraded the severity of the weather Galway can expect from Storm Jorge tomorrow, issuing a Status Red weather warning for heavy winds.
The new weather forecasts that the worst winds from Storm Jorge will come in the early afternoon on Saturday, with the status red alert in force from 1pm through to 4pm for Galway and Clare.
During that time storm force winds with an average speed of 85-100km/hr are expected, with gusts reaching up to 145km/hr.
This brings an elevated risk of coastal flooding Met Eireann has said.
Three weather warnings have now been issued for Galway for this weekend as Storm Jorge is expected to batter the west coast.
A Status Orange wind warning will come into effect at 6am on Saturday, and remain in force right through the red alert until 3am on Sunday.
Meanwhile a status yellow rainfall warning came into force for Connacht, Munster, and Donegal today, and will remain in place until midnight on Saturday.
Up to 30mm of rainfall can be expected this weekend while the county is still dealing with high flood levels, with even more rain of up to 50mm possible in mountainous areas.
