The public are being asked to be vigilant over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend following today’s Status Orange warning for forest fires.
Parts of Galway where there is gorse, heather, dried grasses and other dead vegetation, are at risk of fires.
The warning, issued by the Department of Agriculture, comes as high pressure looks set to dominate over the weekend.
The Department said earlier today: “The need for increased vigilance at this time cannot be overstated.
“Forest owners, farmers, rural dwellers and other countryside users are asked to be extremely vigilant regarding fire
activity, to report any suspicious or illegal activity to the Gardai and to report all fires immediately to the Fire and Emergency Services.”
Members of the public and visitors to recreational areas are being asked to cooperate with all requests
regarding fire safety, obey all relevant bye-laws and be considerate when parking vehicles so they don’t block access to emergency vehicles.
