A week long weather warning for snow and ice has been extended into Sunday afternoon.

Met Eireann issued a status yellow weather warning last weekend warning of accumulations of snow and icy conditions from Tuesday through to Saturday.

That has now been pushed back to remain in effect until noon on Sunday across Ireland, including Galway.

Though many areas of in Sligo and Mayo have seen buildups over snow this week, Galway has been relatively unaffected, with some snow accumulating on the high ground.

However very cold temperatures have seen icy conditions on roads that has made travelling a challenge.

The overall forecast for Galway is positive going into the weekend despite the extended weather warning.

The weather today will be dry in most areas, staying cold but bright.

Tonight will lowest temperatures of -1°c to -4°c with more ice developing overnight.

But on Saturday its forecast that ice and frost will begin clear during the day with highest temperatures of 3°c to 5°c and a few isolated showers.
