There are 182 fewer people in Galway receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment this week, according to the latest figures.
A total of 4,713 people are still receiving the payment in Galway – a decrease of 4% since last week.
Nationally, 93,399 people received the PUP this week, a fall of 3,731 compared to last week.
Over €24 million in weekly payments were paid into bank accounts or post offices across the country this week.
Commenting on the figures, Minister Heather Humphreys said that the reduction this week in the figures represents “another positive step as we continue to re-open our economy.”
“The overall numbers are now 85pc below what they were in May of last year, when the virus was at its peak,” said Minister Humphreys.
She said that the fact the overall PUP numbers have been reduced at a faster rate than previously anticipated demonstrates the success of the vaccination programme and the positive impact of ‘Pathways to Work’.
The Department of Social Protection reminded workers who are returning to work that they must close their PUP claim on the actual date that they start back at work.
