A silent walk in memory of Ashling Murphy will take place in Galway city this afternoon, Saturday 15 January at 4pm.

The walk, which has been organised by NUI Galway Students’ Union, will start at Eyre Square, finishing at the Spanish Arch.

People are invited to gather at Eyre Square at 3.30pm, and bring lights or flowers to remember Ashling Murphy, who was murdered in Tullamore on Wednesday.

Gardaí have identified a new suspect in the murder investigation, and it is understood that the man is receiving treatment at a Dublin hospital for injuries.

The man will be interviewed by Gardaí when he is deemed well enough by medical professionals.
